when looking for a 9-5, I think I might have seen 1 car that had pcv#6 (for sale at a saab indy)... all the rest didn't have it - either at the dealer or for sale by owner... even one particular owner who was super organized + did all maintenance at the dealer since brand new, and had an ordered folder of all records to prove it... and that car had sludged... and it had toasted a turbo just prior to getting the new motor after sludging... and it still did not have pcv#6 even though all that work was done from the dealer! Needless to say, I didn't buy it (there were a few other minor issues also)...
see Anders' photo below for what to look for.
2004+ do not have pcv6 but something different but similarly effective. Sludge seems to be not a significant concern 2004+ if regular 5k full synth oil changes have been done. Ours is a 2004 and we never even bothered to drop the pan... 2004+ also have a sid that doesn't drop pixels and a few other minor improvements (though a few GM deletions, and a few weaker bushings than older/newer years, but no biggie there)... at this point, the amount of $ saved by getting a car older than 2004 is probably insignificant vs the extra due diligence required... but that is just my bias, owners of older cars will likely disagree... (imho 1999-2001 are the best looking ones though)...
