It all started when we had the dealer install the Saab hitch.
- We got the car back and the hatch was rubbing on the bumper.
- On the second visit to complain about it (we think) they just tried pushing down on the bumper cover.
- The third time they re-attached the cover. Obviously the pushing down technique didn't work. They also painted the damaged paint where it was rubbing on the bumper cover.
- That fix didn't work so we went in again to complain about it. The dealer called Saab Tech for help. Saab thought it was a bad hitch. The dealer ordered a replacement one.
- The fifth visit we think they removed the entire bumper and re-attached it. Still have the original hitch. The dealer said there was nothing wrong with it. I think they fixed it finally. They again painted the damaged paint.
- We took it in for a six visit to complain about a gouge on the bumper cover (the plastic part, not the painted part). It looks like a flat-head screwdriver was pushed into the cover.
- It’s now going into the dealer next week for the gouge to be filled by the dealer's body shop. I hope this will be it after seven visits.
We’ve only had the 30-day inspection to re-program a few things, an alignment and an oil change. Good thing the rest of the car has been pretty solid.
Overall the service managers have been courteous but this has been one frustrating experience. I am sure they will never install another accessory for us again. There goes the spoiler on the back.
In the end though I have enjoyed driving for loners a Saab 9-3 SE, a Saab 9-3 convertible and a 2002 9-5 SW Linear. The Saab convertible was a nice touch. Maybe I’ll get the Aero next time around. Then I’ll have driven the entire Saab line.
RPM, 2001 9-5 SE Wagon.
