No tire engineer here either. It seems to me that tire weight capacity ratings are correlated to the amount of air volume enclosed by the tire. A lot of heavy duty full size vans run on 15inch tires 70 or 75 series tires. I'm running my 9-5 wagon on 15inch wheels from NG900/OG9-3 but 205/65 tires that have comparable rolling circumference to the OEM 9-5 16inch tires. These 205/65R15 tires are weight rated at 97AA. I don't think either these or the 70 or 75 series tires on full size vans are counting on the tall sidewalls to support weight. In fact, the ride quality is comfortably soft going over pot holes with my set up.
