Different spring in the Oil Pressure Regulator?? I know this might be considered a bandaid to the real problem but a different rate spring could boost oil pressure by a few pounds. Since the gerotor oil pump in our Saab engines is a positive displacement type of pump the oil flow rate will not be reduced by increasing the pressure.
Making the pump do more work will require more horsepower, not a problem when bolted to a ~200HP or more engine. The higher power draw of the pump will require more fuel but since the pressure will be only a few pounds higher the fuel cost will likely be neglible.
Potentially a much lower cost repair/treatment for a high mileage vehicle when compared against full engine removal and rebuild.
Only a bandaid but cheaper than a heart transplant.
