I tried the test last night. Drove for about 45 minutes on the highway in the 55mph - 65mph range. The rear O2 sensor bounced around quite a bit while I was driving, and I had pretty much talked myself into getting a replacement catalytic converter. However, when I checked the ODB2 status after I was done, the catalytic converter had switched to "Ready". The cat is definitely weak and I suspect it will eventually fail before the next inspection cycle. I might be able to get a used low-mileage coverter from a post 2000 car. I will ask about that in a new thread.
Now I just have to get the Fuel System to go to Ready, and I can get the car inspected.
