I have had a C900 and volvo 740 each which have had paint 'cracking' issues. In my case it was only the paint and not the primer, again, without seeing yours it's hard to tell. If no oxidation is occurring in the cracks you probably still have the primer protecting the sheet metal.
Visit a good body/paint shop which has experience with Euro cars and ask for their advice. Of course they will tell you they can respray the whole car...
A film, if you mean like a ClearBra may suspend the damage it will be a lot of work and expense.
