Sold my 2000 9-3 and bought a '05 aero wagon last summer partly because of this and I wanted and AERO! I couldn't fit in the 9-3 with any rear facing seat and I'm not tall, 5'7".
My wife and I both have wagons and our now 3 year old fit nicely with a Graco Snug Ride 35 rear facing. We're going to use it again for our son who's due in September. As a side note Recaro makes kid seats and they are awesome! We liked them so much we just bought another for her car and we are moving a britax to my sister in-laws minivan.
Snowmobile is right about placing a rear facing seat in the middle for more room, it's recommended for safety too. The snug ride 35 fit with about and 1" of room when installed with the latch system behind the driver. Good luck.
Mike
