looks/sounds like it might be a rod bushing for one of the rods in the climate control heater-box assembly.
I cant imagine how it would have popped loose. unless someone has been doing repairs in there recently.?
perhaps it got dropped/lost back there during factory assembly.?
Just for kicks: Do a quick calibration on your climate control functions: with the engine running press the AUTO and OFF button simultaneously. the screen will show "0" and run the servo motors and test functions. Continue to watch the climate control display. After about a minute it will finish. If the system operations are all normal it will return to normal operation functions. If there is a motor or vent flap malfunction it will display a number or various fault codes (such as 01 11, 04 12) before returning to normal operations.
any fault codes perhaps?
