These same posts here are parallel to my own problems with my 2002 9.3 2.0 T. Mine has a AT not a MT. A few quick 10 minute errand drives to my local plaza and stores (3/5)on Saturdays tends to set up a "NO CRANK" problem suddenly and the car needs to sit for about 30-40 minutes, cool off and then it will crank and start like nothing even happened.
Each stop may by 10 minutes apart. I would be about 5 minutes at each stop in the store and come out and restart the car to head off to the next errand stop. Bam!! No crank, all electrical systems reading on the dash display are a go. But, dead as a fence post. No codes are showing up. Not even a click off the ignition system either. Wait 30 minutes, restart and away we go again.
I have replaced the following typical parts to date: starter/ignition relay, neutral switch, key ignition switch, checked terminals for starter cables and cleaned.
My mechanic services Saab all day long and has Saab dealership background. He is the only one i let service it. He is suggesting now to try replacing the starter cable assembly as he suspects that heavy cable may be faulty when it heats up on frequent startups and may be faulty causing a high resistance. Once cooled down it contracts and allows conductivity again.
He found on my first visit to him that a previous owner had hotwired the neutral safety switch and replaced the NSS and returned the system back to normal. The car now started in neutral and park only instead of every selected gear position. Yikes!!! A NO START but cranking led us to that one.
Shortly after that this "NO CRANK" issue came along. This turning into a money pit and i am totally getting frustrated now. Plus, it was car i bought for my wife on Mother’s Day. Take it from there.
Before i replace the cable i mentioned i'm really interested in some good advice from you any all on perhaps what should we be tackling next here to resolve this problem once and for all. I really like the car(when it's running and starting right but wife is pretty much turned off buy all this and keeps stealing my own company car as a result which is not a good thing.
Help! Help! Help!
