I keep small air pumps on-board that I can stow in the wagons' storage areas. A drop cloth for road side work like changing a tire, tire pressure gauge, flash lights, top up spare tire's pressure, I have full size spares, tool that will remove DIC screws [the screw driver can often not be enough to remove], cloth shop rags, disposable rubber gloves, window cleaner and towels to keep windows clean to enjoy the view and remove bugs, phone chargers, in the glove box, antacids for road food, NSAIDs, Benadryl and other things that a good to have handy.
Also carry a breaker bar and T-wrench in each vehicle.
The wagons can stow everything nicely. The DIC's just float around in the cargo area. When you replace the DIC, the harness connector can stop you in your tracks. These get stuck with road dirt. You need a thin blade to work the clip, wrong tool and it breaks from heat embitterment. A thin screw driver is needed, a small pocket knife is can do the trick. If you use 7ES or 6ES plugs, you are doing annual plug maintenance and keeping the connector freed up. If you run platinum plugs, the clip can be undisturbed for years and very difficult to work with. The clips sliding parts can be cleaned with Windex then toweled dry or dried with shop air. That restores smooth operation.
If you keep the drive belt and wheels maintained, problems there are quite remote and the belts do not self destruct. So not much merit in carrying those on-board.
When you read fault code: - what do you do with that? With a 'smart' phone, come here and search for the code and you have answers.
