I just replaced this.. I had brought the part and finally worked up the gumption to replace it. I had already taken the console apart for discovery.
First, I used the method recommended here.. on the new jalousie I used a razor blade and cut through the stub/center piece on the right side ..this is the piece that goes into the notch in the shifter. By cutting the stub in the center the notch actually keeps the jalousie together. This method also one to fit it in place without taking the shifter arm apart.
Just work slow and watch it on the plastic tabs that hold the white center
piece on.
As to the aluminium delaminating.. perhaps while you have it off for the jalousie you could sand it and plastidip it? Or maybe the plastidip will fill in the flaked off pieces and you don't have to sand?
