I'm pretty sure the transponder to start the car is in the key part in both the all-in-one key and in the separate key. The banana remote locks/unlocks the doors and operates the alarm system and does not affect starting the car, other than turning off the alarm. In the all-in-one key, the remote transmitter has been moved inside the key case. If you take the back off the key, you can see the remote board, but not the transponder chip.
What is confusing is that both parts (transponder and remote) are programmed to the car at same time using the Tech 2, but the two parts perform separte tasks.
