I think it's going to be a tough room in here...
I have a '03 9-5 Aero 178K which I have not used in 2+ years. I kept this car in a garage, where I gave it longing looks and some stabil. About a year ago, I was forced to move it out to a parking spot in my complex where it's been sitting since. I hate myself for just letting it sit out there bt
The car has a dead starter (one loud click, gauges ok, new batt ok, no turn).
My landlords partner is a Saab mechanic and expressed interest. I was more than happy to have check him out, which he did (well, sit in it dead as is). Some time has passed and we recently spoke and he expressed concern in purchasing it.
I have these delusions that I'm going to fix it and get top dollar for it. However, I'm so busy with other things I know it's just going to sit there until the super tells me I have a week to get rid of it. At which point, I won't be able to find a buyer and it'll have get junked.
Mechanic saw the car and - within seconds - was able pinpoint the things which I didn't mention. Here's a rundown of its condition:
-dead starter
-possibly leaking brake booster, brakes inoperable.
-rotors brakes severely rotted/rusted
-no fluid changes in 2+ years
-front CV joints shot and grinding
-crankcase leak
-A/C leak
-tires flat spotted proabably
now for some good stuff:
-transmission excellent! always kept pink
-xenon package
-belts just done
-new battery
-H/K audio, upgraded front custom Boston Acoustics speakers, sound proofing and small self powered sub.
My mechanics computer crashed a few years ago, but I put A LOT of money into this thing.
I get attached to my cars, and I like the idea of this going to a Saab guy to a labor of love.
Any idea how much this car would be worth if I decided to "put it out there"? I'm not sure if a regular "citizen" buyer would even want a car that doesn't start with no guarantee.
Is the Saab guy a godsend and am I going to be kicking myself for not letting him have it "for a few hundred dollars"?
