Giles, thanks for your input. IIRC, there is a hysteresis built into the temperature gauge, via some type of programming that can be done. I'm guessing the engine was running colder than the gauge indicated. It's always showed the middle range when warmed up, be it 20 degrees outside or 100. Still evaluating but enjoying the apparent "lockup" even when releasing the accelerator. For those familiar with the Portland area, every day I have to go down the Sylvan hill, probably a 6-8% grade.
