Agree with the others here based on a 9-3 and 9-5 I own. The nice thing about the newer ones is that they generally throw a CEL code and you have some time to tend to it but not a lot. So if you are nearing 45 k and on a long trip I would have one in the trunk. If you are just using as an in town commuter, having one handy in the garage will probably be fine. The prices of these things have fluctuated quite a bit.
You probably want to stick with the real part, instead of a Chinese knock off. The best deal many of us have found on a real one is with CarQuest, usually just a shade over 300.00. This time last year, Eeuro wanted almost 500.00 for the same thing, dealer wanted over 650.00. So you have plenty of time to shop for a good deal.
I generally replace the plugs every 25 k, which is probably overkill and left over from my older Saab days.
Get a pair of those Mechanix gloves or similar at the auto parts store and keep them in your trunk. The are great for that occasional flat tire, dead battery removal or other under the hood roadside adventure. They give good grip, fit well, provide some level of heat protection and keep the crud off your hands. I have a pair in all my vehicles. Hopefully you will never need them.
your hands. Hopefull
