Never actually had a pump or bearings go bad on any of the Saabs I have owned. But eventually the o rings leaked on all of them. But if you go the the effort or labor expense to replace the o rings, it is wise to install a new pump and that little u shaped hose at the same time.
My history...
C900Ts water pump replacements every 65-90 k
NG 900SEs at about 90k
OG 9-3SE this one set a record, 197k on the original pump/o ring, but it began to leak for the new owner shortly after he got the car.
2004 9-5 Aero, original lasted 92 k, then bad o ring leak
I have replaced some of these myself, Saab indie did all others. Use OEM parts, and clean mating surfaces very thoroughly, bit of vac grease helps too. There s no way you should be getting failures this frequently. Someone is taking short cuts, not cleaning or using cheap parts.
