Although not as extreme, I found the Whaler thermostat that I had put in some years back warmed up very slowly, and eventually showed the dropped gauge with CE light syndrome. Replaced it with a "Stant" OE Fit (had all the right stuff - jiggle valve, rubber gasket included in) from rock auto, and it has been reliable ever since. And it warms up properly.
