a 1/2-inch unswept perimeter is a non-Saab problem Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Sun, 8 Dec 2013 11:53:23 In Reply to: Re: Brake pad size, Alan, Sun, 8 Dec 2013 10:14:13 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I would see a 1/16-inch or such unswept area at the edge of the rotors on my 2000 Base model. My 2008 Aero may have less unswept area than that as I don't remember seeing any when swapping summer to winter wheels last week.
What pads are you currently using on the front? Are they a pad listed for use on a 9-5? Your problem sounds as if it may be caused by installation of the wrong pads, or defective pads which are too narrow.
I wonder if some previous owner custom machined your calipers so they would fit over the Aero rotors when attached to non-Aero caliper brackets, a combination which locates the calipers too far inward? During a 2-3 year period back when your car was new, Saab would not sell Aero caliper mounting brackets unless the buyer purchased an entire new hub & caliper kit (thus preventing owners of non-Aero cars from installing Aero brakes as an economical upgrade). A previous owner or their Mechanic may have gotten both cheap and inventive during this time period.
