For my my 1999 9-5 I've had 2 windshield replacements in 7 years. I went with OEM Sekurit the first time, but noticed the window pitted over 5 years. I must have been reading an old SaabNet posting which recommended a PPG (Pittsburg Glass Works) replacement as less prone to pitting. Well maybe a few years back, because PPG is now known as PGW (Pittsburg Glass Works) which should really be "Peking Glass Works", as the replacement windshield was definitely marked on the paper ID sticker as "Made in China". I didn't really notice it at first installation, but there is definitely a slight reverse curve bow or dip in a section of the glass which can be felt running one's hand from top to bottom and in the right lighting condition, can be observed as an optical distortion from the interior. I have lived with it for about 2 years now, but it just doesn't look right and I wonder if the safety and heat absorbing qualities are actually up to spec or just a copycat screen print label on the glass. The interior surface seems to never be able to be cleaned to perfection. I've thought of trying to talk to somebody in PGW and get an answer as to why quality control seems to have left this company, but I suppose nobody bothers and better qaulity parts would cost more. Maybe an unsuspected brick is the solution?
