A lot of auto "experts" claim that coasting in neutral with an AT doesn't save any gas - I think one guy had a real time mpg monitor and tested it with auto engaged and coasting.
But I have many many times coasted from the eisenhower tunnel to Georgetown on I70 , maybe 35 miles total distance and believe it saves gas because there are a couple of stretches where the road flattens out enough that you would have to use the gas pedal, of course when coasting you need to have your speed up to offset these flat stretches and might risk getting a ticket.
But what it does to the computer mpg calculation is very reassuring (ignorance is bliss) - I recall on my old 1986 9000T when coasting you would see 99 mpg on the real time mode so I'm assuming it does the same thing when coasting in the 9-5 - and inflates your trip mpgs ?
