You can get a replacement for yours from the classifieds here, or that auction site. You could even upgrade to an Aero wheel (I have...) or a wooden steering wheel. Any 4-spoke 9-5 or 9-3 wheel will work. The 3-spoke wheels will not for your car.
Swapping just takes a T-30 TORX bit, and a 22mm socket on about 6"-10" of extension. I use 1/2" drive tools for that.
It's pretty simple:
After you get in the car, straighten the wheels and the steering wheel. Make CERTAIN the key is not in the ignition, and preferably, out of reach. If you're paranoid, you can also disconnect the battery or wait 30 minutes from the last time the car was "on".
DO NOT turn the car on while the airbag is out. If you do, it will set a code in the SRS ECU, and you'll need a Tech2 to reset it.
On the back of the steering wheel, there are two holes (they may have rubber covers). Using the T-30 driver, back off the screws. They're captive, and will not come out or get lost. Disconnect the radio control cable (they come out with the airbag), and the airbag connection. Don't jerk any of the wires. Pull smoothly, and maybe with a little rocking to loosen. Place the airbag METAL SIDE DOWN on the floor next to you. That way, in the highly unlikely event that it were to go off, it'll just make a (very) loud noise and a lot of dust, and not launch itself anywhere.
Put the socket on the extension, and the extension on a breaker bar. While holding the steering wheel from rotating, unscrew the nut, remove it, and put it back on just one or two turns. Remove the socket/breaker, and rock the wheel side to side (i.e. push on one side while pulling on the opposite side) and top to bottom, while pulling, and it will loosen off the spline and hit the nut. Remove the nut. Carefully feed the airbag and radio control wires through the hole in the hub of the wheel.
Take the new wheel, thread the wires through the same hole in the new wheel. Keep the wires taut, and put the wheel on the splines. As you do this, the "clock spring" assembly will align on the wheel. Check that the wheel is straight. If it isn't, pull the wheel off the spline, and rotate it slightly to one side or the other. When straight, put the nut on and tighten. I'm sure there is a torque spec, but I've never had a problem with "hand tight" using an 18" breaker bar, holding the wheel with my other hand.
After that, just connect the wires for the airbag and radio controls, put the airbag back in place, and tighten the T30s hand tight.
That's all there is to it!
BTW - if your radio controls are worn or faded, this is a good time to change them...
