I can honestly say I did not use that special tool however I wish I had it it would've made easier I did just take a brass hammer to avoid sparks of course and a flat headed screwdriver and just tapped around the retaining ring until it loosened right up and I just spun off by hand.
I would also like to say if you're getting to that type of miles and you have a spare part, replace it.SAAB LOVE PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE. I can tell you it will stop working and it will stop working when it's -10° or wedding or there's a tripped the hospital or some type of emergency.
when you replace it you will still have a part that you can use in the emergency but that may not happen for another hundred thousand + miles with the new pump. Good luck use this board is an excellent source of knowledge I.e. Masking off the interior with plastic using a bucket to collect the old fuel pump, waiting for fuel to below 1/4 of tank before you attempt the job unless quits after you just filled up like it did my case my gauges reading about a quarter of a tank maybe a little bit more and I actually had about three quarters of a tank I also address that issue see my other post . Good luck I can honestly say this is a job that anybody can do and it's nice having a extra grand in the bank and also prevents you struggling with the option of selling a car that you think may not be worth the labor cost.
