A lot of it depends on if your have an agent that will go to bat for you. Having handled claims for a fortune five hundred company anybody in my field will tell you to avoid State Farm, Liberty Mutual and Allstate. My dad loved State Farm. I begged him to drop them ASAP before he had a claim with them. Too late! Someone broke into his vacation home and stole the copper from his heat pump. His heat pump was only 3 years old. In order to get State Farm to fix it correctly we had to pay out of pocket to fix it correctly and go after State Farm to pay the claim. When we contacted the state department of insurance regarding their claim settlement practices they canceled his current policy and tried to blackball him with other carriers. State Farm is a truly horrible company and put my dad through a lot of headaches for a claim below 5k. Saw another instance where their insured hit a vehicle in the front quarter fender and wheel area. State Farm refused to pay for a wheel alignment. Just petty. I recently settled a claim with my vehicle with Hartford. They were very fair and easy to work, but I don't know what their rates are like.
