You just twist the cable 90 degrees along the back of the cage to get it out from under the metal bit that keeps the cable in place. You may need to compress the retaining clips around the connector to push it out the hole through the back of the cage.
As for the shifter plate, there are four tabs that go down into the white part. Look carefully, and you'll see where to push to get them to release.
