maybe 8 yrs ago I had a throttle body fail on my 2004 ARC while visiting near Buffalo NY. It was replaced under warranty at a local Saab dealer, while waiting in the service area to kill time I asked the shop's service mgr why the TBs fail - he said "They rarely fail unless you are using that cheap reservation gas in your Saab" . There is a Seneca Indian reservation near Buffalo that is exempt from federal gas tax - so yes their gas is priced cheaper.
The value of the story to me is that I never put cheap reservation gas in the Saab and my throttle body has not failed - but I do not shut down the AC system prior to stopping the car for fear of the evaporator icing up and causing it to fail.
Not sure which of the above is more/less of an old wife's tale. But I do put the cheapest gas I can find in my Saab - but can't put reservation gas in it because I do live near any reservations.
And I've never had an evap core fail and I have owned a couple of Hondas.
