I could swear that when I ordered the kit on Feb 7, there was no warning that it would not fit my 2000 9-5. Instead now the upper part of the blurb says that it is good for my model, and at the bottom it says that only good for 2002-2005.
Anyway, this is the explanation that I received:
In 2002 Saab made some changes to the lower control arms in order to address some suspension issue that were present in earlier models. The changes were made to stiffen the front lower suspension so the bushing at the end of the arm has changed (it is much stronger than the earlier models) and the ball joint is now much bigger.
In the days when Saab dealership were still plentiful, if pre 2002 model 9-5 came in with a ball joint or control arm bushing issue, the dealership would upgrade all of the components to the new stronger style. This would include the control arm, knuckle, and ball joint. If you car has been fitted with the new suspension parts then these items will fit your car. If you car has never had these upgrades then they will not fit your car, or you will have to replace your knuckles to use them.
