Rather than follow any of the steps you suggest to possibly extend the life of my fuel pump - I'd opt to just replace the pump/motor insert for $70 or so around 100k ~ 120k miles. It's a 2 hr job and the pump on my 1999 9-5 did fail at 120k but by rocking the trunk it (car) started and ran long enough to get me home so I could change it out.
I'm no engineer but I am a cheaptech who will spend $70 to prevent being stranded somewhere but will never use techron or top tier gas unless it's priced the same as bottom tier gas - if there is even an real differentiation between top and bottom tier gas.
