Seller sent me a video with "the noise" audible. It's kind of a combo of a misfire with a muted grinding sound....so I'm thinking timing chain(s).

The DI cassette is x3yrs old, so not exactly new. Additionally, the oil leak is reported to be "at a good rate", with evidence thereof around the oil pan (but not everywhere). Seller said oil pressure light came on while on highway & he stopped, got a tow to his mechanic who said "scrap it" [why this wrench didn't bother to do a compression check or even stick an inspection mirror next to the timing cover speaks poorly about his abilities & operation].

I'm seeing 9000's & 9-5's in decent shape selling well under $2k on eBay...so this is certainly a gamble even at $500. I can only justify buying this car if I can fix it without pulling the drivetrain.

A low oil pressure light indicates a serious leak, so I'm really leaning towards the balance shaft (&/or the cam) chain having chewed a hole in the timing cover.
