In August 2011, I used the 3M kit in the attached link (this is the one that comes with a protective coating as a final step). There is another version that looks very similar, is a little less expensive, but doesn't have the protection.
My lenses were still looking terrific in Dec 2013 when a deer took out my passenger side. My insurance replaced that headlight with a brand new one, and only then when I had a new pristine lens next to a 10 year old refinished lense on the other side did I really see a difference and replaced the drivers side as well so they matched.
The lenses certainly looked good still, and I probably would have gotten another year or two out of this polishing before doing it again. I was pleased with the way it was holding up.
FYI -- the Aug 2011 polishing was the first time -- I have owned the car since new.
