Had to replace the temp sensor on an 01 v6. Researched how to and it was nasty like removing the intake manifold, etc. So came up with a very easy way.
1) Drain Cooling Fluid and leave it open with pan, etc.
2) Remove the top engine plastic cover
3) Remove the battery
4) optional, remove the throttle body wire harness connector and move harness out of the way for viewing
5) remove the connector to the coolant sensor
6) Take a DEEP DEEP well 19m (or 3/4") 3/8" drive socket with universal and remove sensor. make sure that the Deep well is deep enough. I used a craftsman 3/4" deep deep well, the metrics deeps that I had were not deep enough. (see pic)
Replace in reverse order taking care not to break off the plastic part of the new sensor. Turn by hand until tight. This take a little patience.
Should be about 1/2 hour. Longest time is removing coolant and replacing.
