um, well, whoever said that was mostly full of crap. The 9-5 was in many ways continuously improved mechanically since its release in 1998... so 2001 was better than prior years, and later years were better than 2001... except, that imho the first generation design (1998-2001) looks sharper than the MCE design (2002-2005), which looks spectacular compared to Dame Edna (2006+)... GM decontented the interior starting in about 2002 or 2004 also... so from that perspective, you have the most mechanically sound of the sharpest looking 9-5's and so there is really no reason to care what other folks might say about it. If you search here you will find info on the little mechanical updates that are worth doing (#1 being the pcv system).
