I have done several and it takes 4-5 hours for me, not being the fastest mechanic. Make sure you have the right o-rings because, as I seem to recall, not all the water pump kits come with the right ones. I just got a couple of extras just in case. I also bought the replacement short metal tube (it's not expensive) to make sure I got a good seal on the O-rings. Sometimes there is some pitting on the tube and it takes a while to polish. I also used a small wire brush on a Dremel tool to polish the hole in the block. You'd be surprised how much coolant residue can collect around the o-ring. I used silicone grease on the o-ring and hole when reinstalling. As I recall, the thing that gave me the most grief was getting the stiff metal tube from the turbo threaded back on. If it's off just half a degree it won't thread or wants to cross thread. I ended up loosening the other end on the turbo to give it more wiggle. Maybe you'll be more lucky there. By now you probably realize that I do everything possible to avoid doing the job again anytime soon. Put fresh coolant in also and I recommend changing the thermostat and temp sender anytime you have the coolant drained. They tend to go when it's bitter cold outside and dark most of the time.
