1999 9-5, 244k. After having several issues with this car, and sinking over $1000 into it (which should never have happened...long story) I recently had a different mechanic tell me that he thinks my turbo is on its way out. Car is blowing blue smoke, and smells hot/oily. He said the smoke and smell, in combination with how I've told him the car has been driving (intermittent power issues, poor acceleration) would lead him to believe the turbo is going. Is there a better way to verify this? If the turbo gives up when I'm on the road, will the car quit altogether? If it is going bad, is there any way to figure out how long it has left? I've heard it's a very expensive job to do. I hate to just junk the car after putting a little more than $1k into it for other things, but that would probably be what I would do instead of paying to replace the turbo. Rust has gotten bad, etc. Just trying to stretch out the inevitable...but am I pushing it too far? Don't want to end up stranded 100 miles from home! Thanks for any advice/suggestions!
