I consider myself good w mechanics and have always done all my own work on cars, I have had 5 Saabs throughout the last 10+ years.
I was recently doing some much needed work on my '03 V6 Wagon including radiator hoses. Replacing the lower hose I noticed oil on the lower left cooler area. I could see nothing wrong but checking the hose from the intercooler to the intake tube found I could put my finger thru a split on the upper part of the hose. I am now convinced that this hose was damaged for many years maybe since I got the car 7 years ago.
I never had proper boost.
After replacing the hose, I had to research the new noise I had which was the turbo bypass valve operating for the first time.
The strange thing is that the boost gauge and performance are not too different. Actually, the boost gauge does not go as high as it did prevously, performance is somewhat better but not very noticable.
I assume that the boost was always full "on" and got some boost to the cylinders, not sure.
I should have noticed lack of boost.
