I have been searching this and other forums and to my surprise have been seeing a number of decent reviews on the Monroe OESpectrum shocks/struts. They are less than half the price of the FSD's I am leaning for. I have used the Koni Sports and Bilsteins on other older Saabs I have owned...I had improved handling, but somewhat degraded ride quality. Durability of both were good but I never could get the damping rate where I wanted it on the Koni Sports.
Given the MI roads and the cold winters, you may find the Koni Sports and Bilsteins a bit unforgiving in the ride department, though there are a number here who seem to be satisfied with them. Sounds like a decent non bone rattling ride is what you want for your highway cruiser. Seems like the Sachs start to degrade at about 60-70k based on my experience with my 9-5. We wont even talk about the crappy springs that sack out before then.
