More 9-5 ABS/ESP module problems (BOSCH ABS 8.0) P1625/P1623 Posted by MC [Email] (#1472) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MC) on Mon, 29 Dec 2014 22:13:57 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Was just reading on about jfdsd53's post and his ABS module issues.
Well, wouldn't you know it. Just recently Our '05 Aero Wagon has developed a similar problem.
At first signs: Intermittent ABS/BRAKE/ESP warning lights on start-up.
They might stay on for a few hundred meters of driving, but usually clear up after a few moments at idle.
Then after a few random glitch start-ups over a few weeks it finally triggered a "check engine" warning lamp.
Set fault codes P1625 and P1623 (CAN data bus malfunctions for ESP/ABS and TCM communications)
Cleared them with our shop's Tech2 ...I'm a professional Import-automotive technician ByTheWay....BMW/VW/AUDI/Porsche/Mercedes/Volvo/SAAB/etc....mostly European cars anyway... So, I'm "pretty sharp" on the technical stuff)
Cleared the faults and attempted to scan ABS module...No communication.
Damn.
So I start mentally (...and financially$$$) preparing for the next repair investment.
It managed to hold out OK for a week or so.
Then,
Developed into: erroneous fuel-level gauge malfunctions, more intermittent ABS/ESP/"BRAKE" warning lights on start-up, then eventually accompanied by Gear-Box malfunction lamp and Transmission in limp-mode (stuck in 4th gear). "Check Engine" ON again.
Have the-wife limp it over to the shop and drop it off.
Tried it later and I got a NO-Crank/No-start accompanied by the "KEY NOT ACCEPTED" SID message...
Before you all jump in here! : I am VERY familiar with SAAB TWICE (theft-warning integrated control electronics / immobilizer/alarm-system) errors and how to approach them.... The quick theory here is that the CAN-bus malfunction is {intermittently) interrupting (or pulling down, rather) various random sections of the vehicle control system operations,...This might explain the erratic fuel gauge operation, but could still be a separate issue (for later)....
This message came out of no-where! completely erroneous! Just to mention it though.
Cycled the key again and to started up... Now with ABS/ESP/BRAKE, GearBox MIL, Check Engine MIL, and AIRBAG MIL,
Cycled the ignition again. And now started up with only the Check-Engine MIL.
Scan it:
Return fault codes P1625/P1623. Still no ABS/ESP communication.
OK. SO, next approach here. Remove the ABS module and prepare it to ship out for rebuild.
THIS.
Is where it get a little more interesting.
Unaware to me (until now) this 2005 Aero was fitted with Bosch 8.0 ABS/ESP/TCS control system. Totally different unit than the usualy Bosch 5.3 & 5.4 ABS modules that I'm accustom to swapping out on the 9-5 models.
I may have expected this from an '06< 9-5.
But this has totally thrown off my whole repair "game plan".
Some quick research and (as other may have mentioned) there is no re-builder out there who will attempt (or has successfully done)a re-manufacture Bosch 8.0 ABS module.
NOT BBA-Reman
NOT Module Master
NOT Xemodex
S.O.L. here.
On to the dealer$$$$....
Our regional O.E SAAB parts supplier listed the NEW replacement at ~$1200, and of course this quote is for the whole damn ABS pump and control unit. Because the manufactures didn't think that anyone would ever need JUST the control module, Rite? *rolls eyes*
So here we are.
The thought process rambles on:
Bite the bullet? Buy the NEW ABS unit and snag the NEW control unit off it? Hate to do have to that.
So, I should swap out the whole ABS pump assembly....Grrrr, It's more work than I SHOULD be doing, but all for the best, rite?
Even more though; At THAT price I could probably buy 3 or 4 used modules.
Then again,... I hate to shop around for used ones. Can always be a gamble. AND I Don't like installing used parts on my 9-5, especially electronics/modules.
Any voice-of-reason out there in SN-95-BB land?
Can you concur with any of this speculative diagnosis? ,...Anders?
