Cold weather surging & stumbling Posted by Doug W [Email] (#2371) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Doug W) on Tue, 13 Jan 2015 19:25:36 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
My wife's '04 9-5 Aero sat outside one night last week in sub-zero weather. It had to be cranked several times the next morning before it started. When it did start there was a sizable cloud of white smoke and the car smelled of "fuel or oil". After this occurred the car would occasionally stumble when idling at a light. My son described it as if a helical spring were wound up and then allowed to unwind suddenly. It also stumbled at highway speed but that does not seem to have recurred.
Of course when I drive the car it doesn't happen. I checked codes with OpCom and none are found. The DIC was replaced a few months ago and has about 10,000 miles on it - ditto for the plugs. The CPS only has 47k on it. I checked for vacuum leaks and found none. The lack of codes also tells me that a vacuum leak is unlikely.
I suspect the fuel pump might be acting up. It's original at 147k.
Any thoughts?
