Hello again, and thank you for all the help! :-) The battery is just a few months old, and the starter cranks the engine well. The lights are only present with just the ignition on when in fault mode. I know they come on just after engine start, but now they come on before I crank the engine. When it works, there are only battery and oil-pressure lights when ignition on ( before cranking).
I thought up a way to check if it might be the cable from the battery to the little fuse box/cable junction just behind the battery near the torpedo wall; I connected one end of a jump start cable to the battery, and the other end to the bolt holding the small wire from the battery and some other cables on the junction. Effectively replacing that cable temporarily with the jumper cable. That worked - the lights and buzzing disappeared, and the car started, and kept running after removing the jump. So I guess the small battery cable is the culprit.
Anyone know if it possible to change just that one? It looks pretty intertwined with the large cable that goes to the starter/alternator.
