HI all,
My sister bought a 9-5 about 5 years ago, 2002 model, with 70k miles on it, with many dealer service records. Since then we have religiously changed the oil at about 5K intervals with full synthetic oil. We also did the pcv #6 update, and had the sump removed and clean, along with the pick up screen. I recently discovered she needed a brake booster so off the car went to a well known Saab Indy.We were also getting some blowby from the oil dip stick tube which i thought would be remedied with the vacuum leak issue. My sister recieved a disturbing call from the Indy Saab tech saying her motor is on the way out.She currently has 123k miles.The tech went onto to say her rings are weak, the compression is low(about 155), the oil booster is filled with oil,plugs came out wet, etc..He said they went to some low friction rings in like 2001+ or something?..I was not aware of that..Does this sound right?.. We are both upset being that we did take great care of this car, and she drives the car extremely easy.. The car runs perfect except at idle(hunts due to vacuum leak). I feel it has full power, no knocking, ticking, blue smoke, etc...Apparently this will end her relationship with Saabs and cannot get anything worthy for the car at this point..Do we find ring failure common?..Thoughts and suggestions?
