I blew the sight glass out of my dryer sitting in line at dunkin donuts drive thru. Just came from the hwy to their drive thru window & was just chatting with the nice lady and poof next thing I know the freon is venting from the dryer. Guess I shouldn't of added that little extra shot of freon to the system. But that's the only reason I did the dryer. 450 is far to much money to spend in a single part for these old 9-5's I would of went e-bay new or used. I just did a quick search for a evap and found one for 50$ that's my kind of deal. Only reason evap's go is if it had a rock fly into it punching a hole, and if you had my exp with ac dryers it's another reason.
I was headed to an Indy that day the dryer went and he had it replaced within 20min -5min it took to get the car on the lift.
Why are you replacing all this stuff? Only reason would be if your car dose not hold freon and this is a feeble attempt in finding a hole in the system by guessing. Which is crazy because now days there is black light freon where the stuff is put into the system and it will glow under a black light where the hole is, if you can't hear the hissing that is.
These cars are prone to the hvac box behind the radio, under the dash breakage. The a/c system hardly goes bad but the hvac box is hell to get working right. I've had my 9 5 for the better part of 4years now and I'm still wrenching in that box. Had a reticulating air plastic arm break and the driver side blend door motor stop working. Making the car always have the inside out side air door wide open (really sucked in 100 degree weather in stop and go traffic and the blend door motor had stopped half cool half heat on driver side. Creating a nice 110 degree cooling for the driver. All this and the a/c in the car was showing 60degrees and no a/c fault codes. As for the functionality of the ac parts beside the hvac box it was working correctly.
Before hopping on the spending train make sure your buying the stuff that fixes the problem. A evap and dryer sounds like poppy cosh
