You troubleshot, and did the work needed in a way that should last. Don't look back; this was only three below-average car payments on a new car.

Our 1999 SE 2.3lpt has 221K miles (motor has about 280K or so). We've owned it for six years and about 100K miles. I replaced the AC compressor and condenser 2 years ago. That was worth no car payment - and my daughter could show up at work without looking like she needed another shower.

Doing bigger jobs on old cars is a risk, but mostly it works out, and I always find things the previous owner either skimped on or had no clue when buying a new-to-me car. I'm working on a 2006 to now that will replace the 1999 (struts, PCV, and VC gasket left to go).
