Passenger Side Mirror Lost Posted by Doug W [Email] (#2371) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Doug W) on Mon, 20 Apr 2015 18:43:57 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Ah the delaminating mirror problem. I fixed the driver side on our '04 by putting a bead of butyl rubber under the outer edge of the mirror glass. No worries. Now the passenger side mirror loosens up. My wife and son are in the car. My son attempts to reaffix it while riding along on the highway. He should have simply retrieved it. The glass fell off and is now ground into the concrete on the interstate.
The car is an '04 Aero wagon. I'd assume the mirrors are heated. How do I tell if I need auto-dimming replacement glass? The interior mirror is auto-dimming but what about the outside ones? I think self dimming had a dashed line between the convex and super-convex sections. Mine was only a light line. The plastic is still in place, in fact the lettering "Objects in mirror are closer than they appear" is imprinted on the substrate.
I'd like to just buy the glass and stick it back on with adhesive and butyl. The glass is under $30 on fleaBay but the heater and glass together is $60 or $130 at Euro. Decisions, decisions. Any suggestions?
