Had this (very similar) issue with our 2005 Aero wagon when we first got it.
It was more persistent on the very-first-start-of-the-day. But not every day.
Stumbled and stalled on first start attempt. Rest of the day would fire-up just fine. some days, no trouble at all. More often than not it did stumble, stall and have to be cranked up just once again before it would idle for warm-up phase.
Ultimately the thing that resolved it was the ECM software update.
Prior to that the things that were {sequentially} serviced & replaced on the car didn't seem to have any effect on the cold-start stumble/stalling issue.
Short list of parts replaced included: new fuel filter (it is different on <2005 models), new Fuel pressure-regulator, new battery, new starter motor (did help with a slow-cranking on cold-start issue though!), new IDM/DIC and spark plugs (for other failure issue, not in attempt to resolve this), minor air leak repair, fuel system cleaning and a number of experiments with fuel additives (both cleaners and stabilizers).
Just a thought, but:
Where abouts do you live, Shauno? And what is the the ethanol content in the fuel you are filling with? I think part of the ECM programming update helps corrects for usage of ethanol content separation in the fuel tank up to ~10% .... Just an educated guess though.
You'll need to have a SAAB service specialist with a TECH-II and SAAB-TIS (technical information system) log-in/access to perform the software updates. Might as well have them check the TCM (transmission control module) for software updates and other control systems as well (climate control, body electronic systems, etc....)
