Warning and indicator lights going whacky

I purchased a 2004 Aero, 4 cylinder, automatic transmission with 102,00 miles in September. It ran great until February, when the Battery Warning and the Central Warning Lights came on in an instant. I decided to purchase a brand new BOSCH alternator because, even though it may not be the problem, I wanted a new one in the car. I had installed a new battery in December. I plan to replace a lot of other components when I install the alternator. (Both battery cables, serp belt, water pump, coolant, MACKAY hose, CPS, etc, etc.)
So the car has been sitting while I have been waiting for warmer weather. I have been charging the battery and running the car around the block every week or so. Now I am ready to proceed.
HERE"S THE PROBLEM: Like I had said, the Battery Warning and the Central Warning Lights had previously been coming on. Today, when I stared the car, all the usual warning and indicator lights came on, EXCEPT THE BATTERY LIGHT ICON, then they all go out as usual. After a few seconds, the ABS, AIR BAG, and Brake lights come back on (faintly), but not the BATTERY LIGHT ICON, and stay on.
I am suspecting that there is a problem with either the alternator or the voltage regulator (shorted out?) causing all this to happen. Any ideas?
