They get gunked up with sludge . Sometimes they leak . I replace them often..they cost about 6 bucks . My experience with the v6 is that it has a huge amount of crankcase volume and the "pcv / oil trap is a mystery to all . The oil pressure seems to really fluctuate from your data . The engine works well for me , as I am @ 250K and adding about 4000 miles a month right now .
I don't know the set limit on the sender switch . I bet it is stamped on the base . I think just turns on the "Oil Can" light .
I know that these engines are not dependent on high oil pressure like some of the 4 cylinder engines are . I forgot to put the filler cap on after an oil change , and the car seemed to run fine .
I run 5-40 lubrimoly or redline ....found the right oil for my car ... now if there was a easy way to purge the oil cooler during changes ...another topic ....
Good Luck !
