Saturday I got up really early and started working on my 9-5 Arc. Coolant leak at front of engine. So I took off the timing belt cover and I find coolant on the timing belt. I check the water pump and the underside is wet with coolant. So I figured the pump is bad. Put on a new one and buttoned it back together. Today, coolant puddle under the car, same place. I'm not sure where it's coming from but am concerned it might be coming from the thermostat housing extension? The concern here is that at 60K miles, SAAB payed for a timing belt. When I got the car back, the bracket that looks like it might be used to lift out the engine was floppy loose. The Dealer said it was a huge task to get in there to tighten the bolt so wanted me to take it the way it is. They screwed it up. I eventually decided to take it apart enough to tighten the bolt and it just turns and doesn't tighten. I discovered the threads in the head are stripped out which explains why they didn't want to fix their mistake. Anyway, the extension moves a bit under pressure since the bolt doesn't secure it so maybe that's the source of the leak? I believe there are a couple of O-rings on the extension pipe. I guess I need to take the timing cover off again to try to catch it in the leaking mode. Looks dry at the thermostat.
