I would say, "it depends."
In my case, on a V6 (which is less prone to PCV issues than the 4 cyl), fixing up the PCV so that the nipple was clear and check valve functioned just about eliminated the leaks I was hunting down.
I don't know that if I had let it go longer before figuring it out if leaks would have gotten worse and required new seals or more. For that matter, it could even be a case where a leak is there all along and the PCV just made it worse.
It really depends. In my case, I didn't need a PCV retrofit, I just needed some new hose, a check valve, and something to clear out the nipple with, so it really didn't cost me anything in time or parts to see if fixing the PCV improved things. Turned out, it did.
