I cannot comment for sure, but there are many variables that could lead to your observations apart from the MY difference. If you have maintained your car very well (new motor mounts, new belt tensioner & belt, subframe bushings, etc.), then your car might be a lot quieter than newer but less well cared for vehicles. Does your car have the long or short belt? Is your hood "pad" in good shape?
Our 1999 has different noises than the 2005 we used to have, and the 2006's we now have. All have / had the short belt. The 2006 with new motor/trans mounts is quieter than the one on which I still need to change them.
If you are hearing a "wheel bearing" noise, I would suggest carefully using a stethoscope to check the idler and tensioner pulleys for the serpentine belt - or remove the belt and spin the pulleys (they should not spin freely). I've changed those out almost immediately on the last three cars I've purchased - and one of them had gone from "no noise" to "noise" in the first two weeks after we got the car. Both pulleys on that car had totally dry bearings.
Good luck on quieting your 2004!
