Hi Mark, thanks for the observations! I'm glad I'm not the only nut noticing differences between cars. One problem is of course that I switch between cars now and then so the difference becomes obvious.
Funny thing is MY2000 has 400K miles on it, the MY2004 has 40K miles on it.
Maybe it is just too 'new'. When I bought it I changed the belt from short to long and replaced the pulleys. It helped on the engine noise but the wheel bearing noise is still there. The car had been standing still for 7 years or so, hence the low mileage. It is in very good shape for its age, just the increased noise from the front is a bit bothering. Initially I thought it was because the MY2004 had not been driven for so long, but after driving a couple of other MY2004/2005 it is very similar to those. The noise is definitely road speed dependent. It just sounds as if it is transmitted into the cabin with less attenuation.
