Another ignition cylinder? Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Fri, 28 Aug 2015 07:06:29 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I replaced the ignition cylinder in my '08 Aero in January of 2013 after it failed to pop-up at turn-off and it was apparent the problem was a small burr on the cam ramp of the aluminum cylinder body.
Last night I had difficulty inserting my key in the cylinder. So much so that I had to double and triple check that I had the correct key for that car. After finally inserting the key and starting the car, I turned it off and the radio stayed playing due to the ignition cylinder not popping up as it should.
Not again!! So I gave the cylinder a couple very brief shots of Lock-Eze with Graphite and hope that will keep things operating smoothly. The cylinder operated much smoother than it has in a long while. I learned the hard way three years ago that excessive quantities of WD40 sprayed into the key slot will remove ALL traces of cylinder lubricant and make things much worse.
